Khonry Gracie son of legendary Gracie Jiu Jitsu fighter Royce Gracie made his MMA debut on September 30, 2017, proudly representing the Gracie family and taking home the win over his opponent, Ben Clark, in the cage.
He used a surprisingly stand-up oriented strategy against his Karate/ Jiu-Jitsu trained opponent, perhaps out of respect for his ground game. But he eventually took him down, twice, in the third round, which would solidify his victory.
His jab was perhaps the best weapon in his arsenal as he maneuvered around the cage in a traditional Gracie Jiu Jitsu fight stance.
He also relied heavily on his front kick to create distance while doing serious damage in the process. It was as traditional a Gracie Jiu Jitsu fight as we’ve seen in a long time, no doubt as a result of the influence of his father and former UFC champion, Royce Gracie.

It didn’t take long after his recent victory to catch the attention a major fight promoter, Bellator. Khonry will make his debut with the company on January 20th.

The third generation of Gracies has been largely absent from MMA competition, unlike their fathers who would routinely tear their opponents apart in both televised, and underground fights (many of which have surfaced online in recent years).
It will certainly be interesting to see if the younger generation can maintain the Gracie family legacy now that the secret of their style of Jiu-Jitsu is out.
