Jon Favreau’s ‘The Mandalorian’ is the start of something truly exciting for Disney

The trailer for Disney’s new show The Mandalorian recently broke. Here’s why The Mandalorian is worth getting excited about.

The Mandalorian has people excited, for sure. But the new show, set to be released on Disney’s new streaming service, Disney +, is a much bigger deal than some may realize.

And the reason for that is Jon Favreau.

The director for The Mandalorian is none other than the man who kicked off the MCU with what I still consider to be, hands down, the best MCU movie out of the whole collection: Iron Man.

Without the success of Iron Man 1, who knows what would have happened (if anything) with the beloved characters who have come to grace theater and television screens across the world for the past eleven years?

Who knows if we ever would have been introduced to The Avengers?

Well, Jon Favreau is at it again, and this time, with a franchise that needs all the help it can get: the Star Wars franchise.

The Force Awakens was good, right? Not bad. There was a lot of potential there for awesome offshoots and continuing stories. But, I’m sorry, The Last Jedi was…. let’s just say a confusing turn of events.

It was just a strange movie — is that fair to say?

Some have come to praise Rian Johnson as an innovator and creative genius for the direction he took the franchise. And at the end of the day, art is art, and its beauty is in the eye of the beholder. But regardless, the franchise has ended up being somewhat directionless in the wake of The Last Jedi.

I tend to hope that JJ Abrams continues with the Knights of Ren and gets things back on track with his vision, but it’s a little too late for congruency for the new trilogy at the moment.

So unless a serious turnaround takes place with the impending installment, ‘The Rise of Skywalker,’ it appears the Star Wars franchise will have to be uplifted by someone else.

My argument is that Jon Favreau is the one who is going to make that happen. He is the perfect person to create a longlasting vision for the future of Star Wars projects.

I think Disney is hoping for a little of that MCU magic — and they will get it.

Jon Favreau is a smart guy. He has a very unique directing style, and he has all the tricks up his sleeve that he needs to pave a path forward for the Star Wars franchise.

Why, specifically, is he so good? He has a serious knack for telling stories that are going to be palatable for the masses. He is someone who truly strives to include nearly everyone in his “target audience.” But most importantly, and quite simply — he really listens to the fans.

He gives people what they want. And that is a huge contributor to his success.

Then there’s the technical side of things. Jon Favreau also has a serious ability to create a mixture between CGI and reality that comes off flawlessly on screen. It’s not easy to do, but he has mastered it.

His dialogue and character-building abilities are also major strengths of his. He knows how to pick the right people for roles, and how to put them in a place to succeed.

Bottom line, The Mandalorian deserves every bit of the hype it’s receiving, and more. Keep this show in mind as the sneaky underdog to take Star Wars to a place where audiences worldwide will be clamoring for more.

Jon Favreau’s ‘The Mandalorian’ will be on Disney Plus on the streaming service’s launch date, November 12.
