When Netflix stepped out of the Marvel business, it left a serious void in the genre.
I miss Netflix.
I miss them being in the Marvel superhero game. They were, and still are, the very best to ever produce a television serious about a Marvel character.
The company may never get back in the game now that Disney owns the characters. But Daredevil and The Punisher were just flat out amazing shows.
They were dark.
I love the Avengers movies just as much as the next guy, but they are family-friendly. I want something that feels realistic in violent nature when it comes to the vigilante genre.
Christopher Nolan did it with Batman. And Netflix did it with their shows.
The only other project that was that caliber was Hugh Jackman’s Logan.
And I get it — you have to have something for the kids; you have to have those shows and movies that you can take your children to see without having to worry about corrupting their little eyes.
But I want something for the adults too, dadgummit.
This is what Daredevil was. This is what The Punisher was. This is what Jessica Jones was. Now? There’s nothing. And somebody needs to fix that.
Hulu, you payin attention?
No, Disney+ and their Pg-13 content is not the answer. They will never be THAT platform.
Hulu, however, is a different story. They are owned by Disney and they are not afraid of more mature content. And there may be some hope.
There are some rumors that The Punisher may be coming back on Hulu, which would make my geeky self so happy. This would also possibly open the door for Daredevil as well.
We Got This Covered reported the following as of a few months ago:
“Sources close to We Got This Covered – the same ones who revealed that Charlie Cox was likely returning as Daredevil, which was corroborated by trusted insider Daniel RPK – have informed us that the most likely way for Bernthal to return to our screens as the black-clad merchant of death in the near future will be via Hulu.”
But for now, we have to wait and remember a time not so long ago when Netflix was absolutely slaying the game with their sick content.
I don’t know if I can do another kiddy movie. Come on, Hulu. We need a hero to save our heroes.
