6-year-old bridger walker selflessly protected his sister from a dog attack on July 9.
Bridger walker suffered bites to his face that required more than 90 stitches after he stepped in front of his sister when a dog lunged at them. He is now being hailed as a hero from all areas of the internet and has been recognized by The Avengers.
When the young German Shepherd mix charged, Bridger Walker blocked off the dog from her and took the attack so she could get away. While being bitten — in the face — his concern remained with his sister, as he told her to run to safety.
And when the dog released him, his first instinct was to run to his sister and lead her to a place in the yard where he felt she would be the safest.
Eventually, the dog’s owner, the host of the house whose child Bridger and his sister were visiting, was able to secure the dog. But what would follow for Bridger was a surgery, from a plastic surgeon, that would require more than 90 stitches over the span of two hours to reconstruct his face.
When it was all said and done, though, Bridger had no regrets. His own words:
“If someone had to die, I thought it should be me.”
Bridger is now receiving a hero’s welcome from celebrities such as The Avengers and other public figures. He even has a Captain America shield on its way to him from Chris Evans!

But one of the coolest parts of this story, by far, is that Bridger Walker is a Jiu Jitsu student. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a martial art in which practitioners are trained to be calm in combat and to slow down the adrenaline when it counts the most so that the mind can be effective and think clearly.
It emphasizes calm over panic. It emphasizes calculated movements in self defense and in the defense of loved ones. Bridger Walker was a fighter in training. And when it counted the most, he stood his ground and protected his beloved little sister.
In a statement, his father said the following regarding his son, Bridger:
“I was reflecting this last weekend about Bridger’s first jiu jitsu tournament. He was so disappointed he came in 4th place and didn’t get a medal. We did our best to assure him that how he placed didn’t matter because we knew he did his best. So when he selflessly saved his sister this week, I’m not sure how much was his couple years of training and how much was his little warrior heart and the indescribable love he has for his sister. Regardless, he has earned the title as undisputed champion in our home.”
The training and his warrior mentality has paid off, and he very well may have saved the life of his younger, smaller sister.
