I never even thought about watching Gilmore girls before, but Covid quarantine has me discovering many hidden gems on streaming services.
Recently, I was talking with a small group of guys at my buddy’s scaled-down bachelor’s party for his scaled-down wedding (covid regulations). We got to talking about how, strangely, many of the girls in our lives made the first move on us to initiate the relationship.
And we talked and we talked, and we laughed and we laughed. And then I blurted out, “HAHA, yeah, it was just like in Gilmore Girls when” ….. the room became dead silent instantaneously. All eyes were on me. And I realized I had made a “manly man” mistake: I had just admitted at a bachelor party that I watch Gilmore Girls. (story to be continued….)
My family has been bunked up together for the Covid ordeal. A strange time for all of us, but through all the election craziness and social uproar, it seems we can all agree: there are a lot of good shows out there!
It was about three weeks ago when my mom began watching Gilmore Girls.
I, being the “manly man” that I am, never even considered watching this show before. Me, a manly man, with my manly men friends, just simply wouldn’t do such a thing.
This show was on when I was in middle school. Reruns would have been playing during my high school years. The era of Lorelai and Rory’s adventures was never destined to cross my path. It was just one of those things that wasn’t gonna happen.
The early 2000’s were imperfect. But most of my friends and I made fun of Justin Bieber (I’ve since done a 180), we made fun of Taylor Swift (also a 180), and we just didn’t watch Gilmore Girls.
My Lanta I had no idea how much I was missing out.
You may recognize the show the Marvelous Mrs. Maisel? Same writers: Amy Sherman-Palladino and Daniel Palladino. This show, Gilmore Girls, is literally nonstop laughter, and the characters will have you busting a gut laughing.
I am writing this article to let others such as myself know — this is a DA** good show. I don’t care if you’re a lumberjack. I don’t care if you are special ops. I don’t care if you are in the secret service — this show will MAKE YOU LAUGH.
See, it’s not just about two girls doing girl things. Sure there’s plenty of depth there, and Loralai and Rory, the mother-daughter pair, make for an extremely entertaining duo.
But the show-writers didn’t stop there. They instead surrounded them with tons of characters that made the fictitious town of Stars Hollow a non-stop laugh fest. You’ve got the goofy French bellhop. The rocker dudes. The grumpy diner owner. The parents. It just doesn’t stop, and it gets better and better with every episode.
Needless to say, I highly recommend this show to anyone who hasn’t given it a chance before. Gilmore Girls won’t let you down.
Anyhoo, back to my story.
At the bachelor’s party, all eyes are on me. And then, someone broke the silence: “that’s a great show!”
I’m telling yall. You won’t regret watching this one. My future children and I will be sharing many laughs around the entertainment room watching this show.
Try it out and see what you think! Watch that pilot!
